Share of Voice in AI answers
Share of Voice shows what share of all brand mentions your brand wins for itself – and how much of it goes to the competition.
What is Share of Voice in an AI context?
The term originally comes from advertising: a brand's share of the total advertising pressure in a market. In AI answers it means: of all the mentions your brand and your competitors receive in the answers of an analysis, what percentage is yours? A Share of Voice of 40% means that four out of ten brand mentions in your topic area belong to you.
Why this metric is so meaningful
A mention rate on its own says little as long as you do not know how the competition is doing. Being named in 30% of answers can be excellent – or weak, if a competitor shows up in 80%. Share of Voice puts your presence into perspective, which makes it the most honest metric for your position in the market.
How KI.SO evaluates Share of Voice
- Per AI provider: your share in ChatGPT can differ considerably from your share in Gemini or Perplexity
- Per topic: you see which topic areas you lead and where a competitor dominates
- Over time: regular analyses show whether you are gaining or losing share
- In the ranking: all the competitors you have added appear with their shares right next to your brand
Improving your Share of Voice
AI models recommend brands about which they find clear, well-structured information confirmed in several places. In practice that means: content that answers typical customer questions directly, structured data on your own website, and a presence in the sources the AI cites anyway – industry directories, comparison portals, trade media. KI.SO shows you which sources those are in your topic area and on which questions you are losing share to the competition.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good Share of Voice?
That depends on the number of competitors. With five competitors compared, an even split would be around 17%. Anything well above that means the AI prefers to name you in your topic area.
What is the difference between Share of Voice and mention rate?
The mention rate measures in how many answers your brand appears. Share of Voice measures your share of all brand mentions compared with your competitors.
How many competitors can I compare?
You add one to five competitors per monitor. Autofill suggests suitable competitors based on your website.
